Virna Jandiroba Eyes UFC Gold: Must-Win Clash Against Yan Xiaonan Set for UFC 314
Brazilian strawweight contender Virna Jandiroba, currently ranked No. 3 in the UFC’s 115-pound division, is set to face former title challenger Yan Xiaonan at UFC 314 in Miami on April 12, 2025. This pivotal matchup is expected to determine the next challenger for the strawweight title.
Jandiroba, known as “Carcará,” is riding an impressive four-fight winning streak, having secured victories over Angela Hill, Marina Rodriguez, Lupita Godinez, and Amanda Lemos. Her most recent win against Lemos at UFC Vegas 94 showcased her elite jiu-jitsu skills, culminating in a second-round armbar submission.
This victory propelled her to the third spot in the strawweight rankings, tying her with champion Zhang Weili for the second-longest active winning streak in the division, behind only Tatiana Suarez.
In an interview with UFC.com.br, Jandiroba expressed confidence in her preparation and aspirations:
“This has been a very smooth camp. I’m feeling great, happy to be here, and healthy. I believe we’ll have a good result. Definitely, if I get past Yan Xiaonan, I will be the next challenger.”
Yan Xiaonan, currently ranked No. 1 in the division, previously challenged Zhang Weili for the strawweight title in April 2024 but lost by unanimous decision. She rebounded with a unanimous decision win over Tabatha Ricci in November, solidifying her position atop the rankings.
Jandiroba acknowledges the challenge ahead but remains focused on her goal:
“I’m going for the submission. That’s what you can expect—Virna constantly seeking the fight and looking for the finish.”
The winner of this high-stakes bout is anticipated to earn a title shot against the reigning champion, making it a must-watch event for MMA fans.
